Welcome to My Art

Art is a deeply personal experience, shaped by who we are and our individual histories. What you see is influenced by your perspective, and this is what I seek to express through my work. My art is an impression of reality, filtered through my emotions and the moment I am in.

I am Ard. For many years, I worked as a self-taught designer, focusing on brand identities, print materials, illustrations, picture books, and various experimental projects. Design was always at the center, but in 2023, I decided to reinvent myself as a painter. I wanted to explore new ways to express my creativity. Through experimentation and taking classes with Antje Sonnenschein, I was able to find direction and start developing my own distinctive style.

My Work and Inspiration

Originally from Rotterdam, I moved to the northern Netherlands over 25 years ago. The peace, space, beautiful light, and extraordinary skies of the Groningen landscape have always captivated me, and they have come to play a key role in my artwork.

The colors and techniques of the Groningen artists from the De Ploeg group, as well as the influence of various modern painters, deeply inspire me. I would describe my style as dynamic and colorful.

My Work at the Groninger Museum

In June 2024, I had the honor of having one of my paintings chosen to be displayed at the Groninger Museum, as part of an initiative by 3FM. After hundreds of submissions, my painting was selected by a jury, which included Andreas Blühm, the director of the Groninger Museum. The jury noted that my painting, featuring a tree in a vibrant landscape, could easily fit among the works of De Ploeg artists. This recognition meant a lot to me, and it’s been an incredible experience to see my work in such a prestigious setting.

Now, this painting is available for viewing at Impreszo Gallery, alongside a selection of other works from my collection.

Visit Impreszo Gallery in Zoutkamp

Since October 2024, Impreszo Gallery has been open at the Reitdiepskade 20b in Zoutkamp (NL). This beautiful location is where you can view and purchase a selection of my works. Together with my daughter, we run the gallery, offering a friendly and welcoming environment for visitors.

Zoutkamp is a charming harbor village with colorful houses along the Reitdiepskade, and the gallery is the perfect place to experience art in a relaxed setting. There is plenty of parking available next to the gallery, making it easy for visitors to explore the area and enjoy the surrounding scenery.
